french food... my preferred treat. Visited at eight, it was not full. Next time I'll be back with my friends.
Plouf is gone. The place closed on September 20th 2019. What a shock. I will miss their wonderful mussels.
The mussles are delicious and the bartender is great, definitely coming back!
Hidden gem of a place. Fast service, good food, pleasant staff. Would come back again.
$1 oyster and great homemade baguette, one of the few places that has 1664 beer. Nice hidden patio in the middle of the FiDi
The clam chowder is really good. Not super heavy, just slightly creamy and tastes very fresh. The mussels in wine sauce were also delicious. Especially nice place to go if it's nice out, because they plenty of outdoor seating.
The service was great but the food was horrible. We essentially came here for oysters and got a bad batch and ended up paying for all but two of them out of 12. Some friends from NYC were visiting and it was a super disappointment due to the fact that there were multiple other restaurants we could have chosen from. The coconut mussels tasted like they were just put in coconut milk and coconut shavings. Would not recommend.
Overall, very good food. Highly recommend asking for the Mussels CURRY STYLE*** SPICY!!! It's not on the menu but just trust me. Too good not to share. The filet was very tender and had great flavor. Great atmosphere in a hidden gem area of "The City."
So so so good. In a town known for its seafood, Plouf stands above the tide in an especially unique way. The variety of preparations for mussels may seem daunting, but I would recommend merely picking one with the knowledge right now that it will be good, so much so that you will return and try another version in the future. Also, I was surprised to see that the actual menu in comparison to the website had more than just shellfish, so don't be daunted if mussels aren't your thing. But unless you have an allergy or are averse to eating meat, mussels will become your thing after dining here.
This has become my go to after work martini spot
Love, love, love the mussels. Taste, presentation, experience are awesome indeed. Update: just went there again, also had amazing steak tartar. And of course mussels and their fries.
Muscles were delicious and the goose pate was tasty.
Tiny oysters. We also had fried calamari. That was pretty much whatever was left over from lunch and fried together in one bunch. There was calamari, but also onion, green onion, and two lonely fries... We had a side of french fries, and that was the best dish of the evening. Summary: expensive and questionable food. Go somewhere else.
Great happy hour! Loved the calamari.
good food and excellent service. a treat to be here
I've been traveling to SF for years for biz and personal travel. This place is a keeper. I'll be back. This strip on Beldon was a new find for me. Had a very European feel to it.
$1 oysters. Happy hour till close at the bar...
French food and service at this spot is excellent. I was super full. Quick and friendly service. The bill was fair I would say. Like a restaurant in Washington I liked.
Every year we host a client dinner here for 12+ people and we've never been disappointed. Food is excellent, service is superb, atmosphere is bright and lively. Sit outside if the weather cooperates and enjoy the people-watching.
Came here to celebrate my mom's bday. We made a reservation for 7pm. The actual place was hidden in an alley behind Kearny St. It was actually really big inside and a lot of outdoor seating. It was pretty empty for a Saturday evening. We sat in one of the booths, that could definitely fit a lot of people. We ordered the marinere mussels, salad, crab cakes, and creme brulee. The mussells were a really good price, with a LOT too. The salad was good to share between the two of us. I never had crab cakes before, but these were made really nicely! I really enjoyed them. We finished with a creme brulee. It was huge and definitely a perfect way to end the meal. I would definitely go again, as the prices were fair and the food tasted amazing. Inside is really big and roomy, which I appreciate. Service was also really fast and attentive.
Date night with my partner.Located in a side Alley of small restaurants and bars.Missed happy hour but was told later oysters are always a buck if you eat them at the bar.Nice outdoor covered eating area that has heater as it can cool down quickly in the evening.Had a great seafood meal.Calamari and steamed mussels were excellent.Crowd was young and a very nice vibe to the place.Staff were on top of things the whole time we were there.Highly recommend this downtown restaurant.
5 stars! What a lovely restaurant. Beautiful location in an alleyway with outdoor seating. Lots of heaters so we weren’t chilly. Great ambience. Extremely friendly and kind staff. Our large dog sat outside with us and they gave him water. Food was wonderful. Lychee martini was delicious and bartender was friendly. Steak and French fries were absolutely delicious. It was my boyfriends birthday and they gave him a free creme brûlée. We will be back! Thanks Plouf!
Best seafood experience we had so far. We can can recommend it to everyone who appreciates yummy seafood. We had plouf mussels and Rockefeller Oysters as well as the Hawaiian butter fish and crab cakes accompanied by a glass of sancere !
Good food, and good staff, GFrench waiter very ha4d to understand, and screwed up our order. Assistance did a great job trying to fix mistake. Great deserts.
Plouf treated me well on my recent trip to SFO. Kronenbourg 1664 on draft that brings back memories of the Left Bank and food that's to die for. I recommend the mussels (pictured) and ask for extra bread. The broth should not be under-utilized, ever. Go.
Good crabcakes with a sufficient amount of crabmeat. But my favorite dish is their mussels! They're served in a cast iron bowl with marvelous broth. Soak a piece of baguette in the broth and enjoy it with mussels and a glass of white wine!
Food was right; I loved the bouillabaisse a lot! Service was a bit below expectations. As if everyone is busy elsewhere and you are bugging them with your presence.
Good oysters and muscles. Pricy outside of happy hour.
40 dollar lunch French.sea food restaurant. Mussel dishes are unique and worthy of trying. Go early as 11:30 to beat lunch crowd.
Mussels in coconut broth gave my friend and I a really upset stomach within one hour of dining. I called the restaurant to inform them, and suggested they verify if the day's batch of mussels was contaminated, so as to safeguard other diners falling sick. The manager refused and went off on a rant about being in business for 20+ years and questioned my authenticity. This is so disappointing, especially because I actually enjoyed my dining experience and was thinking about hosting my birthday here. No chance in hell now. Talk about bad customer service. Thank you for devaluing me over the phone and making me feel unwarranted. 0/10, never dining here again.
The atmosphere is nice
Got the salmon club sandwich which was the best sandwich I’ve ever had. Service was pretty fast, and everyone was very friendly. I will definitely cum back again!
Lovely authentic french cuisine and nice outdoor seating. Listen to your server before you order! Delicious desserts and classic European espresso to accompany it.
Really enjoyed our dinner. We sat on the patio and didn't mind the bad weather at all, barely noticed it. Great pricing and awesome food with good service. Recommended!
Such an awesome quaint little place. Dinner with friends was an amazing evening filled with good food and great service. I am. Beyond sad to hear that they will be closing. Thank you for giving us all a memorable night!!
Great environment down in Belden Place - great, if not overpriced, food. Had the hangar steak, coq au vin, and Caesar salad. The patio seating really makes the environment feel really special. Also great happy hour specials!
Great happy hour! Plouf mussels are a must! Spicy, creamy and very garlic y! $1 fresh raw oysters. Duck liver pate was slightly sweet but the accoutrements offset it nicely. Shaved brussel sprouts are ok. Glasses of wine has several choices ($8-10). Service was friendly and attentive. Not crowded on a Tuesday evening.
Great happy hour. Everything we tried was good. I wish the website was more consistent about hours - happy hour menu says one thing, main page says something different and it says two different things. As far as I can tell they're closed all day sun/Mon. Definitely worth checking out on a day they're open.
Food was mediocre and overpriced. The service was terrible. Great decor though.
Great food, great staff, prices are descent definitely for San Francisco. The only downside is that its get kinda crowded and loud with no privacy for couples on a date.
Great mussels with their own signature broth. Crab cakes rivaled New Orleans recipe. Reasonably priced for San Francisco.
The mussels are okay but you'll have to order fries extra. Service super rough and amateur, stressed out waiter even when not busy, slightly overpriced. Vibe is cool and funky. Clam chowder is awful if you know what it's supposed to to look and taste like.... sorry.
You gotta plouf before they close this place
Overpriced and underwhelming. Service was fine, but the food was expensive and nothing special.
Excellent happy hour specials with oysters and small bites.
Great spot for Happy Hour oysters!!! So plump and tasty. Cocktails were well made and tasty. Service was great to. I will definitely stop by again and try some other items in the menu. The Mussels and other food coming g out the kit when looked and smelled amazing
WOW!!! Superb service, stellar food! Felt quite similar to a French bistro. We enjoyed the Coconut mussels, Caesar salad & brussel sprouts. Paired to a beautiful Sancerre white wine. We stumbled across thus place and the staff was warm and delightful to the two of us. DEFINITELY will be back!
Great happy hour!
We ordered the appetizers. Brussel sprouts were delicious, $1.00 oysters good but small, crab cakes ...ok. ambience was nice, staff friendly.
CLOSED PERMANENTLY .... so sad... they had great food and drinks...... :(
